Pest Control Essex: Signs of Bedbugs
Some people live together with bedbugs in their Essex County homes without their knowledge and only come to notice them when they have already over multiplied and wreaked too much havoc to contain. No one would wish to have these unwanted guests anywhere close to them but it is difficult to avoid them when you know nothing or little about them. Since these pests are perfect at hiding and rarely causes any unusual feeling to their hosts while feeding on their blood, it takes a sharp and knowledgeable eye to spot them early enough before they become a serious nuisance.
These are some of the major telltale signs that you can watch for to establish a bedbug infestation:
Crawling insects with reddish brown, clear or bright red bodies
The presence of the live bugs is one of the major signs of cockroach infestation. You can clearly see an adult or nymph bedbug with your naked eyes since although they are tiny, they are well visible. The length of the adult ranges from 5 mm to 7 mm while a nymph is around 1.5mm long. Although there are many insects with such lengths, you can easily distinguish a bedbug from the rest since it has a flat reddish-brown body which swells after feeding and the color changes to red. However, nymph cockroaches have clear hue which also changes to red after feeding.
Bugs in hidden places
Bedbugs can thrive anywhere in Essex County home, hotel or any other places with much animal or human interaction. However, you are not likely to see then running here and there as it is the case with other pests like cockroaches. Instead, after feeding on your blood, a bedbug hides itself in your luggage, mattress seams or inside the cracks of your bed, couch or chair, among other hidden places near where people sit or sleep.
Reddish brown spots
After feeding on your blood, a bedbug leaves behind small blood stains which look like rust spots. If it is in your home, you are very likely to see these spots beside the bed’s corners and edges, behind your headboard, carpet edges, beside the cracks or your upholstery and underneath your bed, among other areas near hidden places in your upholstered items. You can also see signature spots on your clothes or luggage after passing through an infested place or traveling in a vehicle, plane or any other means of transport with these bugs. Since these places may not be well lit, a magnifying glass and a flashlight will come in handy for the identification of these spots.
Tiny, brown, oval exoskeletons
Bed bugs shed their skin many times while maturing, in a process called molting. They shed the skin in order to accommodate their enlarging bodies. A bedbug exoskeleton is normally small, brown and with an oval shape. These skins are normally concentrated in or near the cracks or joints of your upholstered furniture, in or near the seams of your mattress or in a suitcase.
Musty odor
The pheromones of bedbugs have a very strong, bad and musty smell similar to that of a wet towel. The bugs usually produce the pheromones, hence the smell, when they are in large numbers. Therefore, if you sense this foul smell in your home, a hotel room, public bus, train, ship, or plane, it is almost a sure indication of an established infestation.
. Remember that timely control measure is of essence once you confirm the infestation. Be on the lookout for these signs in your home or commercial area to spot a bedbug infestation soonest possible for timely Essex County bedbug treatment.
